This way we could avoid suspicious behaviours from job posters. There are a lot of agencies which ask translators individually by email to make an UNPAID translation test. Very often, it looks as if they had splitted a real project in small pieces and ask for free translations. Then, they reassemble the texts and deliver their customer a translation for which they haven't paid anything!!

If they are required to post the translation test in the job ad, we could avoid this undesirable practice.

How about filtering outsources who offers offensive rates to translators? Whether they are agencies (mostly agencies) or direct clients. Go for it for a change!

it is important that bidders are clearly identified. Final client should not see or receive same rates of an agency. Translators working in-house and posting jobs as translators proz.members for a Company should declare this as rate, in this case too, should be that one for a final client, not an agency. I am not defending agencies, i want to defend the rate level for translators.

The KudoZ terminology corpus cannot be searched for 2-letter acronyms, which means that a lot of valuable glossary terms are lost. Perhaps such searches could be limited to glossaries, to prevent generating too many search results.

What about adding work possibilities adding a phone interpreting services (one to one or conference) using internet based phoning systems?
It could be very useful for may companies and an extra opportunity for all the proz interpreters...

For new users, it is not a good start for a full-year or at least 6-month membership. Why not making a more flexiable membership term just as other outsourcing sites?? One can pay for one month and renew or cancel membership next month?If the site is really good, it will not damage your profits at all! I feel a bit pushed on the long-time membership! I know that I can refund if I want to end the membership but why I should do such a annoying thing? Why not just a monthly membershp to choose to make it user friendly?

I don't know about other language variants but failure to require a sharp distinction between UK & US English wastes a lot of my time. Job postings and other job opportunities turn out to irrelevant. So do Kudos questions and answers. I therefore suggest this as a requirement for poster forms and "native speaker" listings. Besides saving time for Proz users, this would improve translations. Many non-English native clients do not realize how much the distinction matters; one finds poor translations for this reason which this change would start to remedy.

I don't think that it is worthwhile for the people who speak small languages like Macedonian to pay for their privileged membership. Since the number of translation offers is not more than 20 per year, it is very likeable that the member who paid for the membership and speaks a "small" language does not get back the money through translation offers. That is why, I suggest reconsidering the system of privileged and non privileged membership.

I think job posters should indicate how much they are willing to pay and what payment modes they are willing to use. Sometimes I spend an hour to respond and then they are offering half what I'll take or do not do Moneygram or Xoom.com. Also, we should be allowed to see the rates posted for all jobs -even if we cannot quote on them- just so we know if whether or not we would like to work with an outsourcer in future

I had this idea because if we have to have always the latest version of the CAT tools, which costs a lot of money, so whay not charge the client/agency when we work for them with CAT tools like Trados or SDLX?

There are no translators that I know who make millions of Dollars, and mostly what we make it goes to bills and what is left to translation softwares and upgrades.. Is there any company or companies who offer the generic version of these softwares with more reasonable prices?

Sometimes it would be handy to be able to bookmark or "follow" a job posting that you want to have easy access to. Then you could easy click the bookmarked job in a list and be taken directly to it.

The would be usefull if you don't want to apply for the job right away, or want to get back to it later, for whatever reason.

The outsourcer has chosen to restrict quoting on this job to those who:
... report expertise in one of the following specific fields: Electronics / Elect Eng (You have.)
... are native speakers of the target languages (You have reported you are.)
... report experience with at least one of the following software tools: SDL TRADOS (You have not.)

This is not a good idea. I have done a lot of work for companies which ask for Trados and accept Wordfast, which can take Trados-compatible input and provide Trados-compatible output. Has there been a change made by Proz?
